UniFi Access FAQ

Questions before you connect.

The practical details about hardware, network access, roll calls and evaluation.

Does Musterly replace UniFi Access?+

No. UniFi Access remains your door-access system. Musterly runs alongside it, using a local Runner to turn Access events into presence, roll-call, attendance and visitor workflows.

How does Musterly know who is in?+

Entry and exit events from correctly classified external doors update Who's In. It shows the latest known state from received badge events, so correct door setup and consistent badge use matter.

How do UniFi Access roll calls work?+

Starting a roll call creates a fixed snapshot of the people shown in Who's In. Authorised users share the active session, account for people together and save the result.

Does my UniFi controller need to be public?+

No. The Musterly Runner runs on an always-on Windows or Linux machine that can reach the controller locally. It initiates the secure outbound connection to Musterly, so you do not need an inbound firewall rule.

Which UniFi Access hardware is supported?+

Musterly connects through the UniFi Access API rather than a specific reader model. Your site needs a controller that can provide Access devices and events, plus a read-capable API token.

When does the trial start?+

You have up to 30 days to connect your first site. The 14-day product trial begins on the first successful UniFi sync, or when that setup window ends—whichever happens first.
